Weiti Bay

Taking inspiration from the way a cluster of farm buildings are often arranged, the design of this modern farmhouse is as much about the spaces in between as the structures themselves. The result is the transformation of an exposed site in a new subdivision into an idyllic setting of home and landscape.

Simple clipped gable forms are arranged to create sheltered outdoor living and entry spaces, nestling the building to the site, yet still taking advantage of the big sea views to the east. The main living pavilion extends along the eastern aspect and the western courtyard providing a flow and connection between the outdoor spaces.

A dark exterior palette of corrugated roofing and horizontal weatherboard recede the forms visually. Landscape connection is reinforced with natural stone, softened wall edges and vegetated roof forms. Internally the natural palette continues with polished concrete floors soaking up northern sun exposure, and raw timber finishes balanced against a neutral white backdrop.
