A complete re-modelling and imagining of a home originally constructed in the early 70's. Built a faux Spanish Villa style, any residual visual appeal this beachfront home had was finished off with a horrific upper level addition in 2009. The new owners were initially looking at a knockdown and rebuild project. However, based on their brief, we felt the considerable existing concrete and masonry structure held value and could be worked with as a renovation (saving a ton of carbon in the process).
The challenge was to open up the existing internal layout, enhance the sea views and create more usable outdoor space. Additional garaging for a campervan was required and the existing vertical connection between floors was dire. Alongside practical considerations was the overriding aim of visually transforming the entire home with a modern cohesive aesthetic.
